Michele Day, AFC, CPA, MBA
Michele has nearly 30 years’ experience in the business and personal finance arenas. Over that time, she has served as a CPA, a Registered Investment Advisor, a banker, a mortgage broker, a certified consumer credit counselor and a small business owner. She grew up in a small, family- owned manufacturing business and has also worked for major corporations and non-profit organizations, so she is facile with interacting with groups and individuals at all levels of management and organization size and type.
Michele holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting and Finance from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
She has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant since 2004 and has experience in a Big 4 CPA firm (particularly their trust tax department) as well as in smaller practices that serve the individuals and small business owners. She currently practices as a solo practitioner in Dublin, California. Her tax practice focuses on individuals and small businesses. She also offers personal financial coaching and has served as a Business Advisor at the Contra Costa Small Business Development Center in Pleasant Hill, CA. A good part of her work currently includes tax resolution services – assisting taxpayers to deal with the IRS or Franchise Tax Board to resolve tax issues.
Michele is a past-President of the East Bay Chapter of the California CPA Society (2008-2009) and served for several years as Chairperson of the chapter’s Financial Literacy Committee, as a member of the state Financial Literacy Committee committee, the state Membership Committee and Chair of the Low Cost Education Committee. She was invited to participate in the CalCPA Leadership Institute and was a finalist for the coveted 2008 Women to Watch Award.
She has had the privilege and joy be invited and to serve as a judge for Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) USA Tournament (national business plan/presentation competition).
When serving as a Certified Consumer Credit Counselor with Consumer Credit Counselors of San Francisco and BALANCE, she consulted with over 2,000 individuals across the country. She also developed seminars and presented workshops on consumer finance and personal financial management topics to groups of all sizes.
She holds the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) certification from the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education.
She has presented programs to employees or members of: Apple Computer, Varian Medical Systems, Adobe Systems, Santa Clara County Board of Education, RealNames, San Mateo County Credit Union, Chevron Credit Union, Wells Fargo Bank, Santa Clara County Credit Union, Raytek, and Gensler and Associates. In addition, she has recently participated in financial literacy community outreach programs sponsored by Assemblymember Swanson in Oakland and by the City of Richmond, CA, as well as in several events specifically geared for the small business owner sponsored by the Small Business Development Center, several local cities, the Workforce Development Board, and the Contra Costa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Her passion is helping individuals and business owners to best-manage their financial resources and making the tax planning/preparation/resolution process as stress-free and successful as possible.
